This has been a lazy week for getting dressed… mostly tees and jeans as I’m still unpacking, cleaning and generally running amok.  But I have some ideas for later.. when I have everything put back together. Linking up gives me such inspiration and maybe push me outta my comfort zone, but we shall see. Although the only outfit that was picture worthy is outta my comfort zone…  A long skirt with a tee and flip-flops! So here it is…

2014-04-25 11.52.51

Tee and a skirt… hell has frozen over.

2014-04-25 13.33.13

I like better with the jean jacket…

And now for something else… This is what my Dad shared on my FB this morning and said, “You should wear this!”

Aww.. Steampunk. Love the hat!!

Gotta love my Dad, he has such a great sense of humor!

As always hope ya have a great day… Until next time XOXO

The Liebster Award

What a way to start Monday… I got up, feed the boys, the fish, the dog…. finally Coffee. Check my email… and low and behold a lovely email from a fantastic blogger, Alyssa over at

Alyssa Barnett Beauty

who tells me she has nominated my little blog for the Liebster Award! All I can think is .. wow, I’m so honored!! Alyssa has an amazing blog all about style (which she has in spades) and beauty (which she is…)  y’all should definitely check her out! Thanks Alyssa!!

The Liebster Award is a way to encourage readership and followers for new bloggers. It gets passed around and comes with it a small set of guidelines.

Thank the amazing blogger that nominated you

Answer the 11 questions the nominator provided

Nominate 11 other bloggers who have less than 200 followers

Post 11 different questions for your nominees to answer

Contact your nominees to let them know that you’ve nominated them

These are the questions Alyssa asked me…

1 What Is Your Favorite Childhood Memory?

Umm… road trips with my mom and little brother… in an old VW,  (not quite bug… but something like it), that we named “Old Blue”, it had no floor in the back seat so we’d have to ride with our feet up, we’d sing, play the name game, and fight over who got to ride in the back window.

2 Natural, Acrylic or Gel Nails?

Natural all the way… I tried the gel nails for a bit… but man oh man… are they hard on your nails.

3 What Is Your Favorite Perfume?

ahhh…. Jessica McClintock or maybe Axe Anarchy, I don’t wear a lot of perfume as it makes the Mr’s head want to explode… but when the mood  hits… those are the ones I’m willing to risk head exploding for.

4 What Season Of Life Are You In (Young & Free, Little Ones, Teens, Empty Nest ?)

This is going to sound silly… An empty nester with small children. But I’ll explain. We have 6 children… ages 25, 23, 22, 11, 7 and 5. When the older set were flying out of the nest at warp speed, it pretty well unnerved the Mr. who then talked me into the Foster/Adopt program in Texas… so we did… the foster deal for Our Little Guy, till he went home to his Mom, and saw a “Forever Family” episode on the news, with our boys… fell in love… and the rest, as they say is history. May 30th marks the 1 year anniversary for the adoption to be final.

5 Cook At Home Or Eat Out?

I cook, from scratch every night but Fridays… I live for Fridays!!

6 Biggest Fashion Fail?

Besides the 80’s? Peasant skirts. I love them… they are so pretty until I put one on! Hahahah… at 5ft tall and a little fluffy… I turn into way short and very fluffy!! It is so very sad… but I’ve mostly learned to live without the peasant skirt!

7 Best Beauty Invention?

The straightener, I love my straightener… It’s not just for straight hair, gives me just enough bend to have hair, (talk about thin and fine… see me in the dictionary under fine hair.) without having sausage curls!

8. If You Could Pick Any Profession To Take On What Would It Be?

A full-time photographer, Ansel Adams type, with maybe a little Anne Geddes thrown in, (cuz the babies are sooo cute.)

9. Favorite Pastime?

I’d have to go with Reading, with a close second of crafting!

10. Least Favorite Household Duty

LAUNDRY… yuck… it’s never-ending!!

11. Why Did You Start A Blog?

When I first started I thought it would be about Fostering…. welp… with the rules while fostering, that got squashed pretty quick, but I’d come to love the process of writing and having that outlet. It’s really nice to connect with women out in the world the getting and giving of ideas, hints, tips and the like, I think makes me a better wife, mother and woman.

Here are the next 11 blogs I’d like to nominate….

Kate’s Country Living

Card Table, Inc

Moms who Drink and Swear

I Have a Tramp Stamp

Shoes On the Wrong Feet

Beyond the Aisle

Suzy Homefaker

Ninja Mom Blog

Sisterhood of the Sensible Moms

Kissing the Frog

You Know it Happens at Your House Too

The questions I have for you.

1. Why do you blog?

2. Favorite Book or Movie?

3. What inspires you?

4. Best advice you ever got?

5. Did you follow that advice?

6. Mountains, Beach or Home?

7. Dogs or Cats?

8. Favorite Hobby?

9. Coffee, Tea or soda?

10. What did you want to be when you grew up?

11. Dream Car?

Till next time, XOXO

Friday Five on Saturday

Woohooo We are moved… yay, now come the unpacking and finding new homes for all this crap ,uh, stuff. Yep, stuff, that’s exactly what I meant. It always amazes me how much stuff, flotsam and jetsam we have acquired, just over the last year.  I can’t figure out where it all comes from. But now that we have it I have to find new homes for it… (sigh) Where to hang pictures, umm, the fun part! I thinking I’m finally gonna change my kitchen decor from apples, that I’ve been collecting basically since we got married to something different…  I have a yen for antique kitchen tools. Blues and greens are ruling the roost in my mind’s eye.  Lighter and brighter is what I’m thinking. That will be the fun part… but until then unpacking… trying to organize (and keep it that way) is the name of the game.

2014-04-14 18.09.39

The new house. It’s so cute (and smaller, which means easier in my book) With a to die for yard, flowers everywhere! And the pluses keep adding up, it’s on a cul-de-sac with kids in every house, even the little boys have someone to play with!

2014-04-19 13.18.26

These are the great guys who helped us move! I didn’t have to pick up a single box! Breakage was at a minimum too! 😉

2014-04-21 18.04.20

Already playin’ in the yard… in all truth, prolly his first and last time mowing.

2014-04-24 17.53.28

See… grrrrr…. stuff everywhere!

2014-04-24 14.13.53

But the flowers are beautiful!

Hope everybody had a great week! Until next time, XOXO

Since we are moving this weekend, (why does it always sneak up on me?) with mad packing going on I’ve had no time for crafty anything…. sad I know… but as I like breathing, it is what it is. Besides Easter, it is also our anniversary this weekend. Believe  it or not… I still like him,(after 2o something years) and he still makes my toes curl!  So I’d thought I’d do a quick Throw Back Thursday…..

The closet fairy failed to show, so I was left to muddle through on my own. (sad, i know.) And stepping out of my own comfort level is tough! I see all over blog land, skirts with chucks, and I think, Oh how cute! Try it on myself… and not so cute anymore. Is there an age thing going on in my head, or my Mom saying… Chucks? With that? Oh, wait that might be the Mr. Maybe a little at a time…. get used to the changes I wanna make. Like maybe a maxi skirt.

The Friday 5

Tis Friday once again and I am so looking forward to the weekend, temps in the 80’s!! (Woot to the Hoot) While there is rain also in the forecast, it’s good for the flowers so how can you not like it? But I do believe Spring has sprung, which makes me a happy, happy woman!  All thing being equal this week had been calm and semi quite, at least as quite as you can get with 3 small boys in the house. Big plus… they can now play Outside! Gotta love outside, they can holler and run around like loons (gets it all outta their systems) It has to be said that I love watching them run around the yard in the sun, Playing! (when they came to us, they really didn’t play) So they are blooming along with the flowers.

Introducing Carousel: A new gallery from Dropbox

In case y’all haven’t heard Dropbox has made a new app, Carousel. It is supposed to make picture sharing and organization easier and faster. I haven’t tried the app yet, but I’ll be downloading it in a bit! I love Dropbox. I have the all the kids tablets hooked up to it as well the Mr’s and mine. I love being able to see what the boys are taking pictures of.  But check out the blog (Dropboxes)   It’ll tell you more about it. After I try it out for a bit… I’ll let y’all know what I think.

2014-04-05 18.59.35

But this week I’ll start shifting stuff that I didn’t unpack over, and the boxes I’m gonna pack over, then The Mr and a few friends can do the heavy stuff over the weekend! Yay!! I’m so excited!

2014-04-10 18.17.57

This… this is what I would like to be wearing this spring! If I had a magic closet fairy to grant all my style wishes. I have to say I think I really like the tailored look. Being short and kinda fluffy round the middle I think the tailored look is for me. Long clean lines, with no frills, classic looks with a twist or two would suit me quite well. I think I’m gonna have to polish my sewing skills and see what I can come up with. But until then…. I’ll hope for the magic closet fairy and some killer shopping skills, with pictures!

Things that make you go, hummm

2014-04-07 12.59.56

I read a post over on Scary Mommy Why I Don’t Like being a Mother and it made me go, hmm.  While I like my children, (most days) and love them all days. Sometimes…. I dislike being a mom. I’m not sure why exactly and it’s proving harder to put into words… It’s not so much the work, that is never ending, or the laundry that always needs catching up or any of that. I think maybe it’s the losing of myself in Motherhood. The worries, the am I doing this right, The dragging responsibilities… raising healthy, well adjusted, self sufficient, small people that turn into grown people, is and should be mind boggling. After  doing it once… I was not keen on doing it again, really. But how do you tell someone you love, NO, you can’t have your dream. So once again here we are… trying to raise small people into healthy, well adjusted, self sufficient grown people. And again I find myself lost in Motherhood.  Weighed down with the very same thoughts and feelings, only more so having done it once… I know more, I know I see more, more pitfalls, more of what could happen, I thought this time around I’d be more patience… more relaxed. Wrong… I couldn’t have been more wrong. Maybe more patience in different ways and less so in others. Everything I do or think winds it way around what the boys are doing or will need to be doing. But I guess that’s just part of Motherhood and sometimes, in the deepest part of my heart… I wish. But they will grow and they will fly and maybe, just maybe I’ll find a way to be me. And as me I’ll be enough.

The Friday Five

Wow, Friday took its own sweet time getting here this week. And what a week it’s been! Warm, mostly sunny and Green!! Yay for Nicky Baby!! 2 weeks on green!! We are now on a roll. One that I hope continues. J-Boy gets to start MMA! Woot Woot.  Eazy E is getting taller! I’m just chocked full of exclamation points today. I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those kinds of days, but why not it is Friday. And we have nothing on the books for this weekend. No football, hockey is over, I’m hoping for a slow easy weekend. With continued nice weather. Maybe hit the flea market??? Sleep in, (ok, I know I’m dreaming there.) The possibilities are endless.

2014-04-01 13.56.07

Woo, I can’t wait… look at all those lovely cabinets. And the lights… I will be able to see what I’m baking

2014-04-01 14.05.49

The Biddy Girl and I got to do another walk through at the new house and this time I remembered to take pictures. 🙂 Gotta love her when she’s goofy.

2014-04-01 14.15.15

The Flowers are blooming. I love driving through the neighborhood and seeing the random pops of color. These just happen to be in our “New Front Yard”. I can’t wait to get my hands dirty!

2014-04-04 10.24.38

Aren’t they pretty. I love spring… everything is waking up

2014-04-04 12.48.38

I guess this is why I have Flea Markets on the brain, but they are really fun to go wander through.

So do y’all have any plans for the weekend? Big or small… Have fun and enjoy. Till next time, XOXO

The Good Life Blog

A Little of this, Some of that

Sometime last week or so, I got a catalog from my favorite store, Coldwater Creek, with pants that were just too cute for spring. Now as ya’ll know I just love them, I don’t feel like I’m trying to put my short fluffy, self in teeny bopper clothes. But as much as I like them, I hate paying for them… (books, fabric, boy stuff…) So what was I to do, Recreate them of course.

Aren’t they just too cute? If you’d like these ones… Here is the link to them.

On to my knock off…. 🙂

2014-04-02 14.52.26

Thrifted Jeans, That I had all ready took from wide leg to skinny. But never did hem… Laziness just sheer laziness .

2014-04-02 14.52.36

Way long… but there were comfortable!

2014-04-02 14.58.20

First to hem them into ankle pants! let me tell ya what… this was so easy… Using this Tutorial

2014-04-02 15.12.25

Try on your pants. pin to the length you want, sew (in a straighter line), right next to the original hem

2014-04-02 15.14.59

Cut off the excess, below your seam.

2014-04-02 15.15.45

Voila, your Jeans are now hemmed. Iron down flat.

2014-04-02 15.20.28

All hemmed, at at a nice length.

2014-04-02 15.20.41

Ankle Jeans

On to the part That will make them cute when cuffed…

2014-04-02 17.12.40

I used a 7 inch wide piece of scrap fabric, with a half inch fold at the top and bottom of the fabric leaving it 6 inches wide. Pin all around the inside of each leg, right on the hemmed part. Cut the excess fabric to size

2014-04-02 17.30.09

Sew close to the top of the scrap fabric and as close to the original hem as you can.

2014-04-02 17.33.38

Unless you are right up close, you really can’t see the top stitches and if somebody wants to get that close…. I guess they’ll see the stitchen!

2014-04-02 17.34.50

Cuffed! And almost as cute as the original ones, but for alot less!

I have to say all total… with trying on and taking off, this prolly took about 45 minutes to do. The hardest part way figuring out what length I wanted them to be. Remember.. where you pin the Original hem is how long they will be when you’er done.  So have fun and play with different fabrics for different looks!
