I got this necklace a few years ago…. it wasn’t exactly what I wanted but I had a credit that I needed to use up… (before it went away) So I thought how bad can it be? Well… it’s really Gold… shiney in your face gold. And while I like gold… yay… not quite so much. Cruzing around Pinterest, (go figure) I found several ways to revamp old jewelry or new… Like this one Here or this one There or yet Another, however none of them were quite what I was looking for. But I would like to try them at some point… especially the last… neon necklace! (great for a Pop!) So why not try to change it, I mean I don’t wear it now, so if I mess it up?! It’s ok… but if it works?? I have a great new/old necklace!
Here is the necklace.. Love the shape, the over the top rhinestones… hate the shiney gold! So I got out my trusty 150 grit sandpaper and started sanding. The earrings were easy, The necklace… a little less easy but not hard by any stretch. So sand, sand, sand. I tried to get off most of the shine… front and back.
Here is the back.. starting with a pretty thin coat of just metallic antique bronze craft paint, and a foam brush. After coating it pretty good and trying not to fill up the chain, I let it dry for a few hours flipped it over and did the same to the front.
You can see it starting to come together… for the links between the rhinestones I used a Q- tip dipped in paint. The whole thing took about 3 or 4 coats of paint due to the links in the chain. and they’d wiggle around and I’d find more gold… what’s left, is not much and kind of accents the whole deal.
The finished deal! Way better to my eye… and when I get bored… I’m thinking black metallic spray paint! So who knows what you can do.. Until you try it!
