The Friday Five or Six….

Wow, This week has just flown by, not to mention where did February go?! Time sure flies when you’re not looking. On weeks like this I wish I could just stop time, just for a minute and go, “Oh yeah… this, this right here is what’s it’s all about.” Nothing really special happened, just those little moments that come and go so quickly.

Necklace Re-Do

I got this necklace a few years ago…. it wasn’t exactly what I wanted but I had a credit that I needed to use up… (before it went away) So I thought how bad can it be? Well… it’s really Gold… shiney in your face gold. And while I like gold… yay… not quite so much. Cruzing around Pinterest, (go figure) I found several ways to revamp old jewelry or new… Like this one Here¬†or this one There¬†or yet Another, however none of them were quite what I was looking for. But I would like to try them at some point… ¬†especially the last… neon necklace! (great for a Pop!) So why not try to change it, I mean I don’t wear it now, so if I mess it up?! It’s ok… but if it works?? I have a great new/old necklace!

2014-02-25 09.56.43

Here is the necklace.. Love the shape, the over the top rhinestones… hate the shiney gold! So I got out my trusty 150 grit sandpaper and started sanding. The earrings were easy, The necklace… a little less easy but not hard by any stretch. So sand, sand, sand. I tried to get off most of the shine… front and back.

2014-02-25 11.21.02

Here is the back.. starting with a pretty thin coat of just metallic antique bronze craft paint, and a foam brush. After coating it pretty good and trying not to fill up the chain, I let it dry for a few hours flipped it over and did the same to the front.

2014-02-25 11.32.11

You can see it starting to come together… for the links between the rhinestones I used a Q- tip dipped in paint. The whole thing took about 3 or 4 coats of paint due to the links in the chain. and they’d wiggle around and I’d find more gold… what’s left, is not much and kind of accents the whole deal.

2014-02-25 12.18.05

The finished deal! Way better to my eye… and when I get bored… I’m thinking black metallic spray paint! ¬†So who knows what you can do.. Until you try it!

Just another Monday

Friday night we went out! Sans kiddos!! Thanks to the Biddy Girl who graciously ¬†watched her younger brothers. The whole night stretch out before us, it was amazing and I had forgotten what it was like to go to a nice restaurant and sit at the bar, and talk like grown ups!! Just let me say Joe’s was fantastic! Beautiful and the food was great! Then off to The Blue Fox, hahahahah, it has been forever since we’ve gone to a bar! ¬†This one was pretty interesting, ¬†and not a kiddie bar. One side is all given to pool tables and the like, the other had live music… mine kind of music! Altho I have to admit the one band… whose name I won’t mention, the lead singer… smh.. but the band rocked! ¬†We were home by… 10, yep, 10 pm! We are getting old!! But it was fun while it lasted! ūüôā

The rocking… Band

Saturday was taken up by house hunting… our lease is up soon, and while we would have liked to sign a new one. They want to sell, and I’m just not willing to buy. We want to be closer to the Mr’s work. So the search is on! I do love looking at houses, but I’d feel better if we could get one nailed down. The one I really, really liked, wouldn’t dicker… not at all!! (boo hiss) So i’m guessing that one just wasn’t meant! I do have hopes for the next one.. but he hasn’t got back to us yet… so do I wait or keep looking? Keep looking!!

house1

The first one… that I loved! But they wouldn’t dicker!! So Nope!! Love or not

house2

About the 15th house… would be perfect! Great schools… great layout… lovely kitchen!! But the guy’s not in a big hurry, which is fine. But I wish he’d send the form.. so we could at least get the ball rolling! And we could quit looking, not that I mind looking it’s fun. But I need a plan!

2014-02-22 13.44.55

What happens when we stop at fast food for lunch, while house shopping! I play with my food!!

So how was Your weekend? ¬† Hope ya’ll had as much fun as I did!! Have a great day

The Friday 5

Yay!! Friday at long last… Now laundry or blog first? Hands down… Blog! This has been a pretty good week, mostly, minus the blue fingernail polish the He Who Will Not Be Named,( Nicky baby),… got all over the place! Grrrrrr…. but he is 6. We did get some amazing news!! The J-Boy… who has be delayed, his entire life… is NO Longer delayed!! Woot Wooot, which means, he is all caught up and needs no special services anymore. He is also not M/R… nor PDD/NOS nor any of the other wonderful things his last psychological test said! They did say he may or may not need speech therapy later as you don’t develop all the sounds you need till later but that’s fine by me!! He is ready for kindergarten! ¬†And let me tell you what, that is cause for celebration!!

2013-09-04 15.28.08

The J-Boy rocks!! In the last year… Year, he has learned how to talk, be potty trained, skip, hop, cut with scissors, write his name, his ABC’s, numbers… and a whole mess of other important stuff!! He is truly amazing!

The great sunrise… before the rain

2014-02-20 10.05.12

Who knew this would wind up being my favorite hair thingy. I used to tease the girls about straightening their all ready straight hair… and now look… I use this everyday! I guess they are getting the last laugh!

2014-02-19 13.46.58

My favorite craft of the week!!

The Diary of a Real Housewife

Spring Purse

I loved my winter purse… but now I’m hoping for spring! ¬†So I decided a new purse was in order, (hint, hint Mother Nature!) A little background on the fabrics before I get to the making… my friend Katy, over at Buffalo Gals Mercantile ¬†inspired me to make a burlap bag! She makes the cutest bags, aprons and her Biscotti is to die for! She ships all over the country and has some great prices!! ¬†So on to the inspiration part… I love the look of her bags… so I thought I’d whip one up, ( Katy’s are still better :)) ¬†But it was fun to make. And it makes me feel spring really is just around the corner…

2014-02-18 12.39.11

Cut out 2 pieces of burlap, the measurements I used were, 19 across by 10 high

2014-02-18 13.35.08

I did add a clear iron on interface to give the burlap some body and help it keep it’s shape. do this before adding the peats

2014-02-18 13.00.00

I made 6 pleats in each rectangle, which made my final measurements about 12 inches across, but yours could be different depending on the depth of your pleats.

2014-02-18 13.05.38

baste the pleats… after pining… trust me… pin, pin, pin

2014-02-18 13.22.28

you need 2 smaller rectangles, mine are 5 inches by 12.. the 12 I got from taking a soft tape and measuring the curve.

2014-02-18 13.22.45

Looks too small, but really it’s not. ease the smaller rectangle in and pin, pin, pin! It’ll fit.

2014-02-18 13.24.32

See fits fine. Sew together

2014-02-18 13.27.50

all sewn together… do the same for the other side. Pin right sides together… sew all the way around.

2014-02-18 14.05.49

Do the same with the lining as you did with the outer. *

Make your handles, mine are 5×23, and go side to side, close to the side seams, ¬†put you lining inside your outer fabric… wrong sides together, fold the top in, for the outer fabric and out for the lining, pin close, sew around the top.

By the time I got to this part I quit taking pictures , ( I had to go pick up the J-boy from pre-school!) So I was in a semi hurry to get it done!! Sorry bout that. ¬†If you have any questions on anything… feel free to drop me a line or comment in the comment section…

*Also for the lining… I doubled it, right sides out so what showed through the burlap would be pretty, and when you looked in it would be pretty.

For the rose… I used an easy tutorial that you can find Here¬†

2014-02-19 13.46.58 2014-02-19 13.47.06 2014-02-19 13.51.38

All done! And went together quick, about 3 1/2 hours. Try it… you might like it!

WIWW

Here we are back to Wednesday… the middle of the week… the it’s really only Wednesday?, day. ¬†And I admit I’ve been slacking… not in dressing but taking pictures. My mirror broke (in the move) so I’ve been using the Biddy Girls, and it’s all the way downstairs and I think to myself, ¬†“self run downstairs and get your pictures before you forget…” well, then I don’t listen and I forget. I really wish I’d of gotten one yesterday’s outfit, I really like it, but nope sidetracked! Umm, sewing! But I’ll show ya’ll what I do got.. and can you believe I have a bunch of blazers, and totally haven’t worn any of them, until today that is! (I’m shaking my head ) I will definitely be pulling them out and incorporating them into the light of day!

Have a good rest of the week, See ya back here Friday!!

Crafty Weekend

This has been a crafty weekend, Valentine’s Boxes, jean fixes, (and I’m still working on my reusable towels..) I wish I’d taken so pictures of the making of Nicky Baby’s box, it turned out sooo good! At least he Loved it.. and I got the ultimate praise from Eazy E, “Cool Box, Mom.” But mostly I started with a black shoe box, printed out some Spiderman graphics off the computer… cut it all out, and then glue…glue… glue. To make Spidey stand up, craft stick between the mirror images. Added a few hearts… it is a Valentine’s Day Box. But our Nicky Baby is Spiderman crazy… and he’s been super good so it was fun to be able to make something different and tailored made to him!

Image   ImageImage

I also spent sometime “fixing” my favorite jeans! They are from Ann Taylor and I love the fit… mostly! The wash is great! The only problem I had with them was the gappy waist! It felt like they were falling down alllllll the time, so I was forever hitching them up! And bending over? Not in theses jeans, (I can’t pay for everybody therapy!) So after 10 minutes on my sewing machine and about 6 inches of nice wide elastic… Tada… my favorite jeans are really and truly my favorite jeans!

                                                                   Image

What I did was, pin the elastic in the center tight… 2 pins were pretty necessary in my opinion, then I pulled the elastic as far as I could to one side, while keeping the jeans as smooth and as straight as possible. Sewed 2 lines… one on top of the elastic and one on the bottom, I used navy blue thread so you couldn’t see it from the back, (outside) of the jeans, repeat on the other side… and¬†voila no more gappy jeans!! Oh and try not to catch the belt loops, if you can. I didn’t really stress over that… I don’t wear belts as a rule. But if you do… try not to catch them or your belt wearing days are over!

                                                                                     Image

Sorry…. but from the back. Wow, that’s just not a good look, is it? oh well, the jeans look good!!

The Friday 5

Here are the things I love this week, (catch the subtle hint towards Valentine’s Day?) And where is the Mr…. ummm…. Snow removal, which I will also be doing after this post. Yay! Not. I am so hoping spring is just around the corner… But the sun is shining and everything just glistens so at the very least it’ll be pretty work. ūüėČ

1. One of my favorite quotes, and in our case it is very true.

2. I have to say after a week of using this … love, love, Love!

3. What’s not to love about Red Shoes!! (Payless… BOGO sale)

4. While I don’t really love the snow…. It is amazing! I haven’t seen this much all at one time since we left Colorado… wow, it’s really deep.

5. Cara Mia… just look at that sweet face!

That’s all I’ve got for this week… How was your week?? See ya’ll back here Monday (when they will hopefully have school) Until then Happy Valentin’s Day! Hugs….
